If you live in a home with carpeting, you know how hard it can be to ensure that this material gets clean and stays clean. For many people, despite how often you might try to clean your carpet, it always seems to look dirty or dingy. So if you’re wanting to have cleaner carpets in your home, here are three tips to help you get them.

Take Care Of Stains The Right Way

Whether you have kids, pets, or are just a little clumsy yourself, every home has some kind of stain on their carpet. The trick is knowing how to get rid of the stains as soon as they happen so they don’t have time to get set into the fibers of the fabric.

Once a stain happens, the best thing to do is to blot the stain rather than trying to rub it out. If you jump right into the stain by rubbing it, what you’re actually doing is grinding the stain further and further into the carpet itself. And when you do this, getting the stain out is going to be much harder. So when something spills on your carpet, make sure you remove the debris and then blot at the remaining stain so you can soak everything up without pressing it down into the carpet and making matters worse.

Retrain Yourself On How To Vacuum

To keep your carpets as clean as possible, you’ve got to embrace vacuuming more often. However, if you’re not vacuuming correctly, the amount of times you’re doing it won’t really matter. What you want to really worry about is the quality of your vacuuming.

If you’ve gotten into the habit of just quickly running your vacuum over the carpet, you might need to retrain yourself on how to properly vacuum. First, you’ll need to make sure your vacuum has a fresh bag and a clean filter before you start. Then, you’ll want to set the height to match the type of carpeting you’ll be vacuuming. For high-traffic areas, try to go slow to get all the debris out of the carpet. And for lower-traffic areas, going a little faster should be fine.

Make Shampooing A Regular Occurrence

If you’re not already shampooing your carpets on a regular basis, this is something you’re going to want to add to your calendar. Especially if you have kids or pets, you’re going to want to shampoo your carpets on a very regular schedule so you can remove buildup and ensure that they have a safe and clean place to play.

Ideally, you should try to get your carpet shampooed every three to four months, depending on how dirty your carpeting gets on a daily or weekly basis.

If you’re wanting to put in a little more effort to keep your carpets looking and smelling clean, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you in doing this.
